March 16 – 27 2027
Often overlooked by travellers in favour of Rajasthan, Gujarat is one of India’s most rewarding destinations for cultural and documentary photography.
Home to an extraordinary diversity of pastoral communities, ancient traditions, remarkable artisans and vast desert landscapes, it offers an authentic glimpse into a way of life that has remained largely unchanged for centuries.
Award winning photographer Sebastian Belaustugi and I will be leading this journey in March 2027.
This journey takes us well beyond the usual tourist route into the heart of Kutch, where colourful tribal and pastoral communities continue to preserve their unique identities through traditional clothing, jewellery, embroidery, architecture and customs. We spend time with the Rabari, Ahir, Meer, Mir, Meghwal, Marvada and Jat communities, photographing daily life in remote villages while developing genuine cultural connections.
Our journey also explores one of the world’s oldest civilisations at Dholavira, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back more than 4,500 years, before crossing the surreal White Desert of the Great Rann of Kutch and visiting master artisans whose skills have been passed down through countless generations.
Designed specifically for photographers, this expedition balances exceptional portrait opportunities with documentary storytelling, street photography, landscapes and architecture. Travelling in a small group allows us to work respectfully with local communities and remain flexible should opportunities arise to attend village weddings, temple fairs, livestock markets or traditional celebrations.

Why Join This Expedition?
This is far more than a sightseeing tour. It is an immersive cultural photography expedition designed for travellers who wish to slow down, connect with local communities and create meaningful photographs that tell a story.
Travelling in a small group allows us to spend time with people rather than simply passing through. We work respectfully with each community, allowing authentic moments to unfold naturally while remaining flexible enough to take advantage of unexpected opportunities—from village weddings and colourful festivals to the simple beauty of everyday life in rural Gujarat.
This is India beyond the guidebooks—rich in culture, history and human connection—and an unforgettable destination for photographers seeking something truly different.
